First time fundraising? Don’t know where to start? You’ve come to the right place!
We know what works (and what doesn’t), so read below and let’s get started!
Step 1: MAKE A LIST
You are probably jumping to step #2, but PAUSE. List-making is one of the most critical step to successful fundraising!
Make a list of friends, a list of family members, a list of companies you can reach out to (preferably companies you have a connection to), a list of random people you come in contact with, and a list of random people you DON’T come in contact with.
Step 2: BE PREPARED
Next to each name on your list, write down the best way to contact that person.
For example, if it’s an older fellow, you should send a letter in the mail. For a person on-the-go, you should approach him with a text. If it’s a businessman, stick with an e-mail to their business e-mail address. If it’s someone who is an avid Facebook user, send them a Facebook message. If it’s a company, you’d be most successful making a trip to the company’s office.
Step 3: BEGIN CONTACTING
Start contacting the people on your list. Remember to make your request personal.
Although it may feel uncomfortable to remind someone to donate, people sincerely appreciate the reminder.
RARELY will someone give after a one-time ask, and not because they don’t want to. On average, a person receives e-mails and 110 texts each day. Your message is sure to fall through the cracks so don’t hesitate to ask a second time.
