HIKE 4 FRIENDSHIP EXTREME INFORMATION

Join Team Friendship on a Women's Extreme Hike 4 Friendship trip on June 23-26, 2019 for a meaningful and exhilarating experience. Grand Canyon Rim to Rim is one of the most famous and challenging hikes in the world. Nearly 6 million people visit the Grand Canyon National park each year, but only about 1% of those visitors trek across the canyon from rim to rim. Join this elite group of adventurers and conquer the canyon on a guided rim to rim hiking trip.

TRAINING PLAN, COACHING, AND SAFETY: Arizona Outback Adventures will be leading the hike, and will make sure that all hikers have what they need to safely participate. Additionally, hikers are provided with a Hike Manual which outlines more specific safety details such as hydration, calorie counts, and weather. The manual also includes varied training plans to meet the hiker’s specific athletic level and help them prepare for Grand Canyon.

TRANSPORTATION: We will be arriving in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. Our guides will meet us there and take up straight to the Grand Canyon where we will spend our first night.

ACCOMMODATIONS: The nights of our trip will be spent camping out in tents in the Canyon.

FOOD: All meals will be strictly kosher and designed to provide hikers with sufficient energy for the hikes. Breakfast will be served each morning before the hike. Lunch will be on the go along with plenty of snacks throughout the day. Dinner will be prepared and served once we return to camp each night.

THE ITINERARY:

DAY 1: SUNDAY JUNE 23  |  ARRIVE PHOENIX, TRANSFER TO THE GRAND CANYON
Upon arrival at the hotel, our guides will distribute any rental tents, demonstrate how to properly set them up, and assist with overall camp set-up. The group will then get together for distribution of group gear, pack loading and fitting tips, and an in-depth orientation to prepare everyone for our backpacking adventure in the Grand Canyon National Park.
OVERNIGHT: Grand Canyon Inn Motel      |      MEALS: Dinner    |    TRANSPORTATION: 3.5 Hour Transfer from Phoenix International Airport to Grand Canyon Inn Motel

DAY 2: MONDAY JUNE 24  | TREK INTO THE GRAND CANYON
This exciting Grand Canyon backpacking trip descends into the canyon from the South Rim and winds down the famous Bright Angel Trail to the ages-old campground at Indian Gardens. Before settlers came west and ventured into the canyon, Bright Angel Trail was used for centuries by native tribes and was improved by prospectors in the late 19th century and tourists were charged for its use. In 1928, the park service established itself as the overseeing body of Grand Canyon National Park and began maintaining the trail for the public. As you hike along, breathtaking vistas await you around each turn, and temple peaks and buttes rise out of the bottom of the Grand Canyon floor as the trail snakes downwards over three thousand feet.
OVERNIGHT: Cottonwood Campground     |    HIKING: 16.7 miles, – 2,480 or -2,546 feet / + 1,534 feet elevation gain/loss    |     MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 3: TUESDAY JUNE 25  |  HIKE TO THE RIM
Get ready for a challenging trek into the heart of the canyon! The ascent is 14 miles and 5,700 feet up to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. During this trek, we traverse through nearly every biological life zone in North America and can experience drastic temperature and weather changes. As we rise from the Colorado River to the alpine forests, each step takes us through thousands of years in geologic time through ancient oceans, deserts, lakes, and swamps. With mind-blowing vistas, fascinating trail design and workmanship, 100-foot tall waterfalls, and green spring-fed oases, the North Kaibab Trail is a national treasure. The end of our hike brings us to North Rim Lodge, nestled on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We will celebrate our accomplishment with tears of joy knowing only 1% of visitors ever accomplish this hike.
OVERNIGHT: Jacob Lake Inn     |     HIKING: 6.8 miles, +/-4,059 feet elevation gain/loss     |     MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
